City Mountainbike – XCE

 Hi Mr Bruyneel,

Today I saw the message that the City MTB in Brasil is cancelled. That’s a pitty for the Brasilians as they won’t see how great the eliminator races are in the city… On the other hand, I’m not that surprised that it has to be cancelled…

Allow me to explain that.

As much as I like the City MTB races, I don’t think going all the way to South America is the solution to expand your concept.  The best ( and the most?) XCE riders are found in Europe. That’s a fact. And to be honest, you will need those riders to create a show which will attract people. For those riders the trip to Brasil will be too expensive, so they will pass. Sponsors in those countries are not (completely) aware of the sport and have doubts for their sponsorship.

I admire your commitment and courage, but why not expand more in Europe? And no, I am not telling you how to run your business, but I hate to see all the XCE races disappear. XCE is the discipline for the future. The number of riders at XCO races in the Netherlands and Belgium is decreasing as riders are searching for other challenges. XCE is that challenge!
Rotterdam was a good example how a city MTB could be. Sure, the crowd wasn’t that big, but as you said, people have to get used to the XCE races. But you found a spot where a lot of people already had gathered to sit down and drink some beverages.

Guess that’s part of the solution. Bring the XCE to the public, not the other way around. If you can find more of those spots in the Netherlands ( I know a few…) Belgium, Germany and even Austria ( Hi Federspiel!) I am sure it will be  great events. Just think about it.. ( pretty sure you already did, but ok…. ). Food, drinks, music, nice atmosphere and world class riders battling in a nice event. What more could you wish for?

Just my 2 cents…

Wishing you all the best for the future 🙂

Salukes he !
